About Kirsty
I was born in Zimbabwe before becoming an expat child for most of my junior schooling until we moved back to Zimbabwe, where I completed junior school and high school. I then went to Rhodes University and completed a BSc, double majoring in Human Kinetics and Ergonomics (HKE) and Mathematical Statistics. I earned my honours in Biokinetics from the University of Cape Town, South Africa, in 2007. I remained in South Africa for the completion of my internship and managed a Biokinetic practice until I moved back to Zimbabwe in 2010. I was at the forefront of helping progress Zimbabwe on the medical rehabilitation front. In September 2011, I established Biokinetics as a member of the Medical and Rehabilitation Council of Zimbabwe. I initially set up my own practice out of Rolf Valley Sports and Medicine Centre and then opened my own centre. I met my husband in Zimbabwe, and at the end of 2013, I moved to Dubai, UAE, with him.
I spent my first couple of years working at a practice in the Emirate and then took time off to have our first child. I then fell into Mathematics tutoring for a few years and from there I worked in a British curriculum school in the Inclusion Team using my Biokinetics. My role was to help kids that had been identified with learning barriers, sensory processing disorders, motor control disorders and those receiving OT. I provided them with academic support, fine and gross motor planning and coping mechanisms throughout their learning day to ensure they received full access to the learning outcomes. In 2023, I moved back to Zimbabwe with my husband and 2 children, and am now reopening my practice at Therapyworx.
I have a keen interest in continuing to support children in the education system alongside Occupational, Speech Therapists and Paediatric Physiotherapists, as well as continuing my orthopaedic rehabilitation work alongside physiotherapists and orthopaedic surgeons and specific chronic diseases with GPs and health specialists.
My experience has come from studying and working at the Sports Science Institute of South Africa (SISSA) alongside internationally renowned Sports Medicine Specialists, and with sports teams such as the Sharks Rugby Union, Zimbabwe Cricket and Zimbabwe Rugby 7s. The practice management in South Africa post-training helped me to establish my own practice in Zimbabwe where I covered all areas of Biokinetics. My tutoring and inclusion support has taught me a lot about children and how important movement is for children to ensure their full development, physically and mentally.
My areas of passion are:
- Orthopaedics – keen interest in the lower limb and shoulder conditions
- Children – Weak gross and fine motor control, poor coordination
- Elderly – maintaining independence for activities of daily living
- Diseased population such as Parkinson’s Syndrome and Osteoporosis

About Jacqueline
Born and raised in Bloemfontein, South Africa, my love for sport like ballet, netball and hurdles ultimately led me to study Human Movement Science at the University of the Free State. I have always been fascinated by the human body and what a privilege to work with and aim to better understand such an impressive system.
I actually met my husband at a Biokinetics conference in Potchefstroom during our honors year and after completing my Internship I moved to Cape Town where he was starting his Masters. I worked in both commercial gyms and private practices and also worked for a small company specializing in home visits.
We got married in Cape Town in 2015 and moved to Zimbabwe shortly after. We both felt that we could use our skills and experience more effectively here where the need was huge at the time. Back then there were only a handful of Bios in Zim and the profession was mostly unheard of. Together we ran a successful practice based out of Pro Fitness gym for many years and enjoyed seeing a wide variety of clients reach their goals and heal from injury. We also began offering EMS (electric muscle stimulation) training as it tied in beautifully with the rehabilitation work we were already doing.
The covid pandemic coincided with us starting a family and turned life upside down for a few years. I was very lucky to take a few years off work to focus on my two boys.
Motherhood unlocked a new passion for me – pre and postnatal care – and how exercise directly influences both mom and baby. There has been a growing shift in our perspective of exercise during pregnancy in the past few years and I absolutely love walking alongside moms in their postnatal recovery.
I also really enjoy working in conjunction with other healthcare professionals to guide patients through all phases of rehabilitation and disease management, providing comprehensive and holistic treatment.
What is Biokinetics?
The word Biokinetics is taken from the Greek word “BIOS” which means “life” and “KINESIS” which means “movement”. In other words, it refers to the maintenance of quality of life through the use of physical activity.
Movement is an essential part of everyday life, for people of all ages. Movement affects development, learning, communication, work capacity, health and quality of life.
A biokineticist is a person who prescribes scientifically-based physical activities to promote health, maintain and improve physical abilities and facilitate injury rehabilitation.
Therapyworx Biokineticists are medically trained therapists registered with the Medical rehabilitation practitioners council of Zimbabwe.
Here are some reasons why you would see a biokineticist:
- Cardiac rehabilitation
- Orthopedic injuries
- Pre- and postnatal training and rehabilitation
- Weight loss
- Special population (pregnancy, elders, neurological disorders, etc.)
- Parkinsons syndrome
- Sports/orthopaedic injury rehabilitation
- Chronic disease management (diabetes, cholesterol, arthritis, respiratory diseases, ect.)
- High-performance training
- Medical assessments (body composition, blood pressure, fitness, health screening)
- Muscle imbalance correction
- Postural evaluation and correction
- Sports specific training
- Corporate wellness
Once the consultation is complete, a biokineticist will prescribe an exercise program tailored to your needs. The aim is to help improve symptoms, enhance quality of life, and reduce the risk of complications.
What is the difference between a Biokineticist and physiotherapist?
Biokineticists use exercise-based interventions to promote functional recovery and overall physical performance. Physiotherapists employ a broader range of techniques, including manual therapies and passive modalities, to address pain and restore mobility.
